Programming period 2004-2006

Upon its accession to the European Union in May 2004 the Czech Republic obtained the right to draw from the Structural Funds and the Cohesion Fund. It has thus entered into an ongoing seven-year programming period 2000-2006. The drawing followed the support of pre-accession instruments. Overall, the Czech Republic in 2004-2006 used up in 13 programmes (including the Community Initiative Programme) over EUR 1.69 billion, and thus used almost all its allocated financing. Thanks to over 13,000 projects there have been over 400 km of highways built or upgraded, 46,000 jobs created, or nearly 70,000 people connected to newly built sewage treatment plants.
