European funds support a great variety of worthwhile projects in the Czech Republic. They provide funding for the development of education, healthcare, better environment and modern transport as well as for business projects that contribute to economic growth and employment. That way, European funds help all citizens of Czech Republic. For example, in the period 2007-2013 alone, 368 buildings serving the medical component of the integrated rescue system were built or modernized. Since 2014, more than 180 such facilities have been supported for firefighters and rescuers. The support is aimed not only at modernizing the equipment of hospital and the IRS, but also at programmes educating in the field of health care and prevention.
In the years 2014 to 2018, the support of European funds helped to equip municipalities and cities with 449 new and greener buses and trams. Since 2007, more than 2,900 km of class I to III roads have been upgraded or reconstructed. Also 675 km of railway lines have undergone modernization or reconstruction. Thanks to the support, transport is now faster, safer and flows more freely. As a result, the environmental burden is reduced, which contributes to greater air quality and an overall improvement of the environment. All residents of the Czech Republic will thus recognise the positive effects of the support in the area of transport.
European funds improve the quality of life in Czech regions and at the same time increase the economic development and competitiveness of the Czech Republic as a whole. Projects supported by European funding help Czech companies to innovate production, invest in research and acquire modern machines. Between 2007 and 2013 alone, 8,454 projects were financed to support small and medium-sized enterprises. Thanks to the support of European funds, 531 inventions and patents were applied for and granted, 78 science and technology parks and 51 business incubators were built. Since 2007 up to the present, 5,168 product, service and process innovations have been introduced.
